Lana’i Cat Sanctuary

Video used by permission of Lana’i Cat Sanctuary.

On the remote Hawian island of Lana’i, purchased by Oracle billionaire Larry Ellison in 2012, with plans for optimal green technology, there are approximately 3,000 humans and 500 cats. These cats might have been forgotten and starving if someone hadn’t had the foresight to save them. At Lana’i Cat Sanctuary, where most of the island’s cats reside, cats can expect fine dining from humans at their service. These beautiful cats, known as “Lana’i Lions” to the sanctuary and its fans, also receive health care by veterinarians flown to Lana’i. Spaying and neutering fosters population control.

Earlier this year, Lana’i owner Larry Ellison gave 200 million to USC for cancer research and an awesome commencement speech where he talked about once living on a boat in the Berkeley Marina with his cat. I expect that was the sweetest of his cat’s nine lives.
