Told by Bob’s person, James Bowen, A Street Cat Named Bob is the story of Bob choosing James to share his life. James courageously endures the indignities thrust on a former drug addict who fell into homelessness. Although certain humans may be reluctant to give James a second chance, Bob doesn’t hesitate to give him a paw.
Bob needs some help himself. When James meets him, Bob has wounds from a fight and a flea problem. James pulls his meager funds together to get Bob veterinary care.
To support himself and Bob, James goes out and “busks” on the streets on London. I checked the definion of busk: “to play music or otherwise perform for voluntary donations in the street or in subways.” Without any self pity, James describes being treated as invisible or worse on the street before he met Bob.
A Street Cat Named Bob shares the joy Bob brings to James’ life. For the first time in years, James celebrates Christmas because a woman who saw the pair on the streets together buys Bob a stocking filled with toys and treats. And because James recognizes Bob is a gift. As one of the erudite cats I know, @CatFoodBreath, said, “All cats are awesome. Bob is super awesome.”
Thanks James for sharing the story of you and Bob with the world.
